Act and SAT... both neccessary?

Okay I know this is probably a dumb dumb question but I'm just wondering. I'm a senior this year and have a 30 composite on my ACT. I know Northwestern and plenty of other schools say you don't NEED both ACT and SAT scores to get accepted, but somehow, I'm not buying it. I absolutely know I would fail the math portion of the SAT if I took it, and in SOuthern Illinois where I live and everyone from my town goes to the local community college, and SAT testing date is hard to come by. Could I get in with my good (though I know, not great) ACT score? Has anyone else not had an SAT score and gotten in? Help is appreciated thanks guys.

Yeah you'll be fine with just an ACT score. I'd suggest getting the Princeton Review book and prepping for the first fall exam date.

i dont remember if they require sat 2s or not, but if you don't have ap scores, you should prolly take sat 2s at least.. although act will replace sat1s, it wont account for subject tests...

personally, i would recommend taking the sats since it has a writing section now, so that means sat 2s writing will be taken away.. and act doesnt really reflect your writing.. some colleges like to see a writing score, but nu might not care. you should read on their website what they recommend. i think some schools like stanford required sat 2 writing last year.

ACT has a writing section now, and NU only accepts ACT with writing.

thanks guys

You will probably still need at least 2 SAT IIs. I'd recommend the math and maybe a science, history, or language.

Come to think of it I may have sent in my SAT scores. I was trying to hide them for the most part because my ACT was so much better than my SAT I (35 v. 1430). However, I think NU might have actually said they strongly suggest 3 SAT II's.

honestly, if you have one great score.. it's not a big deal if there's a minor discrepancy between your act and sat.. scores only matter to a certain extent.. i'm sure nu has rejected students with 1600s.. and they've accepted students with 1200s.. but i agree, sat 2s are probably recommended by nu.

I'll be a freshman at NU next year. I only took the SAT (as well as the SAT IIs) and didn't have a problem at any of the schools to which I applied. Hope this helps and best of luck getting into the school of your dreams.
