Hey Guys! I just checked my ACT score with the essay score. I got a 35 composite with a 9 on the essay. I’m considering on applying to top ivy league schools with my score. I’m extremely happy with my composite score, but I’m worried that my essay score is too low. What do you guys think? How influential is the essay score in the college admissions process? Should I consider a retake (i can definitely improve my essay score but I’m worried that my composite will be lower)? Thank you!
I think you’re okay. The essay isn’t that important and a 9 is a decent score.
I agree^ But, most schools either have score choice or superscore. So, you can retake the test and either send both tests or just send the higher one.
Remember though, colleges are admitting people and not numbers. At many of the top Ivy League schools, a perfect score is not going to be the deciding factor for admittance (out of a 20+ page application, it is not even a line and JUST the writing section is one number). If taking another test is going to take time away that you could be dedicating towards your school work or ECs, it’s probably not worth it.
OP
Do not retake and work on the other aspects of your application.
