ACT Essay? To take or not?

I was just wondering. I've taken the SAT twice already and i was wondering do you HAVE to take the ACT Essay?
If so, how do you signup for it?

I'm going to be applying to stanford and a couple UC's.
Is it mandatory that you give them an ACT score with the essay or not?
So yeah if someone can just clear this up for me, that would be great!
Thanks in advance!

If you just send in ACT I believe almost all if not all schools require writing. It’s not a big deal, only half an hour longer and I got an 8 on the SAT essay vs. an 11 on ACT so… Good luck!

If you haven’t taken the SAT subject tests, I strongly recommend you add the writing.

Check the schools website and see if they require the writing portion. Or just simply google " Which colleges require ACT with writing" and a whole list will show up.

I know Stanford for one requires the ACT + Writing. A lot of schools do.

To sign up, go to the ACT website.

To clarify, you can’t just take the essay. You must take the ACT and the essay in one sitting.

Even if it’s not required the essay is strongly recommended and it’s only half an hour long so just take it.
