i agree that it doesn't express a complete thought but alot of people said that maybe is not a subordinating conjunction or something so it does

really dunno

really dunno

i said WAS for that question too because I think you had to read the whole passage and look for the tense, and then infer the tense of that question

yea but adding a comma on the who knows one doesnt really answer teh question of "who knows what". just like saying "i sleep" or something...it is an ind clause just with no DO or IO

i guess i can see what you mean. Who Knows is a complete thought because it has a subject (who) and verb (knows)....

I put comma for that one though, because the rest of that sentence wouldn't sound right without the first part.

grammatically, it has a subject and a verb. However, so does the independent clause: "I am" Immediately you ask "you are what?"

Anyway, you can see that you use a comma there based on how reputable sources use punctuation in similar sentences:

example of seattletimes publishing an article with that sentence structure and using a comma

edit: You can see why they asked the question: teens tend to misuse the question mark when typing in forums. (type in with quotation marks "who knows? maybe" into google and most of your results will be from forums and "who knows, maybe" will have reputable sources.)

i'm not sure abt it though, that was just my reasoning. i got a 34 last time on eng, so i obviously missed 2 or 3 probably like this one

does everyone have the same writing prompt?

yep everyone

so do you think a standard 5 paragraph essay's good enough for a 12?

depends on how you wrote it. Did you vary your sentence structures? Did you formulate your argument into a logical flow of ideas? Did you use some tough words? Did you follow your opening paragraph's layout for the essay?

check, check, check. it's so unfair how we spend a half hour to write it and they only take like a minute to read it though.....

I still think it's "is", supported by my reasoning.

So do I. :) Oh well. We can't change anything now. I guess we won't know for sure for another couple of weeks.

first stage of acceptance is denial ;)

Why did the author describe the mother's room as "the heart of the house" ?

oh.. that one. I think i said it was where the most important things happened-- something along those lines.

Oh and necrophiliac, i'm curious about your macabre username.....

I said that too
And about my nick: I used it a lot for the last 5 years. Means sexual attraction to corpses. Not many people know that definition but those who do get a kick out of it.

what was the Canadian scientist not described as? (I remember I eliminated the choice "willing to volunteer his time.")

edit: TMac_09 wrote that he put "is grown." Anyone see a problem with that? Is growN is correct. Is grow isn't. I'm now more confident that it's "was grow."

i put "is"

i put was.

Necro... I don't remember the other choices to that question...

Some science questions:

There was one with a bar graph and it asked you about increasing and decreasing over a certain range, but the bar graph was pretty much the same height throughout the range. ***?!!?!

The last question of the last passage... I forget the question... it was something about the composition of the solution at a specific point...but there were graphs of some sort (there was a gray background, some black stuff, and some circular-ish white things).... I put A for that one (which was gray with some black stuff), but I wasn't sure.

wow, I cannot believe they censor w t f! it's an abbreviation!
