ACT February Thread 2018

S’19 didn’t take it(though he should have imo, he has only taken it once and needs to bring up his 24), hopefully he will study and take it again soon. My daughter took the ACT Saturday through the Duke TIP 7th grade talent search, she felt that she might have done okay on the other sections but math will be mostly luck since there were very few of the problems that were anything she has covered. It is very frustrating that we have to wait weeks to get her scores in the mail because you have to be 13 to create an account on the website.

What time of day do they usually release scores?

@ninakatarina I thought I saw 1:00 am Central so check when you get up!

Earlier I got an email from a school we chose to send scores to, thanking DD for her interest so I wondered if they got the scores?

I was just lurking on Reddit and saw that someone had seen their scores on the portal of the college that they sent the scores to, so the colleges do have the scores. The conventional wisdom on Reddit is that if your status on the actstudent site will have been changed to ‘tested’ if your test scores are ready for tomorrow, otherwise it will still read ‘registered’. Kiddo’s site says ‘tested’, so maybe we’ll get the scores tomorrow.

I am going to control myself and not wake up in the middle of the night to check test scores. Really. Feel free to laugh at me when you see me online at 1:01 tomorrow morning. I really need to get over this helicopter thing.

The scores are in! 12 am Central time but I’m just now posting this haha

Yes! Kiddo got a very solid score. He’s not one and done, he thinks he can get better, but it was a great first try.

32 composite - 33e, 26m, 36r, 34s. The science section must have had a heavy curve because he is sure he got more than 2 wrong.

DD got 27- 2 points better than freshman year, but 2 points under where I was hoping for. Science score really improved over freshman year but the rest didn’t. I may have her try in June and really work on math in the meantime but I was hoping we could just be done with this stress.

We got told by friends that for our area the scores are frequently not in the first batch released, and sure enough, they’re not. Ugh. Sure hope they drop sooner rather than later.

Wow, I finally got my goal score 34!

English- 34
Math- 35
Reading- 33
Science- 35

It’s so weird. I guessed on almost half of the reading test (not lying nor exaggerating). I think I didn’t even read one of the passages.
To anyone considering taking the ACT again for a higher score, continue and be persistent! I’m a senior in high school and I finally made it to where I want to be. A lot of it is luck.

Yeeees, I finally got a 34 too! That was my score goal and I managed to achieve it, super happy for that.

English - 35
Mathematics - 31
Reading - 35
Science - 34 (Im most proud of this one, since this was the section that screwed me over last time… Last score was 27. I SUPER recommend the book “For the Love of the ACT Science”. I couldn’t have gotten that score without it.)
Writing - Not available yet, I took the essay.

Math section was a bit tough this time around but overall I’m super pleased with my score. I can finally rest assured that this is the LAST time I take a standardized test. Good job to everyone!!

How many times did you giys(34 scorers) take it? It’s my first time, and I didn’t manage to even get a good score :frowning:

@AGoodFloridian CONGRATS!!!

@Acortez122 Ehh, I had to struggle with the test, it was my third time. I’ve taken the SAT multiple times too but I’ve never had any luck with it.

Check out the book I recommended. For the other ACT subjects, I used their new official guide.

@Acortez122 I used Prepscholar and official tests

Took it in 8th grade for Duke TIP(33) and this February will be my first official ACT score of 35. Only problem is somehow I ended up with a 33 in math so I’ll need to take it one more time.

My S19 also got a 34. He’s a math kid and got a 32 on that section ironically. I think he’s done!

I have read that there was a fierce curve for this test and it was harder than usual. My kiddo got a 34 in the science section and he said that he flat out guessed at random on at least 6 questions. So either he’s a very lucky guesser or the curve was kind.

On reddit, so many students complained about the difficulty of the test and most specifically the science section. D20’s boyfriend, class of 2019, said it was very hard. My son knew of several questions he got wrong immediately. None mentioned specufically on the science section (he got a 34), but in math (32) and English (35).

As a student that took the test, I definitely agree that the science section was hard. The Math was difficult, but I was able to complete it all. My score hasn’t come back yet, so I am hoping it comes tonight!

Anyone else not get their scores back yet? Is this common?

@TheMainEstrange I have not gotten my score back either. This was my first real ACT so I do not really know if this is normal
