Posting for my D19. She took the ACT test in Dec and Feb. She scored a 33C both times which I know is a very good score. Her scores on each section were Dec: 32E, 34M, 36R, 29S and Feb: 35E, 30M, 35R, 32S. She had prepped a lot for both tests. Both times, she got tripped up on a particular section and spent too much time solving a problem and then had to rush/guess to finish the section. The first time it was Science (she guessed on the last 4) and the Feb test it was Math. She is very strong in Math - usually one of her strongest subjects, so she was upset to get just a 30 - really not indicative of her strength. I told her that she needs to move on from a question if she cannot solve it and if she has time to come back to it.
She is determined to take again because she wants to get a 34C (and a 35 superscore).
The issue is that she is so busy now that she has no time to prep for April test. She plays a spring sport, takes all honors/3 AP classes. I told her that she should wait and take in June - after AP tests are done so she will have more time to prep for ACT. Only thing is the June date is the weekend after the SAT Subject Tests – she is taking two (probably Math2 and History). Still, I think June will give her more time to prep and then she could always take again in September.
But she thinks she should just take in April and see how she does.
Any advice?
her superstore is 34. That’s a great score. I would focus on her sport and ec’s
My S19 “may” retest in June after he finished Precalc w/trig. He took the test just once and while he received a 34C, his math was 32 and he’s looking for engineering. He says there were several trig questions for which he hadn’t yet covered the material in school. If he has his way, he’s done but I may overrule that!
