ACT how do I improve my reading score?

So i just got back my act and i ended up with a 30, but my reading score was a 25..
i dont understand how to get it up! i scored pretty well in the other sections with a 33 in english and a 31 in math..but my reading really sunk my score? any tips on how to get it up?
thanks!

What is important with reading is speed and comprehension. I’m not sure how long you have to increase your score, but reading novels that are hard (think classics or college reading level) will definitely help with this. The more you read, the better you get. FYI most of the “popular” books today are only written at close to a 3rd grade reading level. Twilight just won’t work for ACT practice. Taking practice tests always helps, and talking to your English teachers and counselors about study material is a good way to go. For comprehension, ask yourself about what you’ve read. At the end of a chapter, you should be able to summarize what has happened fairly quickly and in depth, and at the end of a book, you need to be able to give a detailed summary as well. At least, that helps me. Good Luck!

thanks! yea im only a sophomore so i have time! it was my first time taking the ACT and when I saw my reading score…i was just like “uh oh” haha but thanks!

From a 36er-
If the time constraint was the hardest part, practice making passage maps (circle main ideas, etc) in 2 minutes or less. For me, reading the passage was just a way to get the main ideas of the passage, rather than to form a detailed summary. Once I read the questions, I always looked back to the passage.
