ACT in 8th grade...how will I do as a junior?

Curious about how you'd expect my score to improve by the time I'm a junior. I got a 27 now in 8th grade (28 m, 28 r, 27 e, 23 s).

Well, it does get easier with practice. I doubt you’ll get over 32 but you might. DD hit 28 in 8th grade and seems to have plateaued at 32 but found she could do better on SAT I. DS had middle school scores of 25, 30 and 32 and 34 in 10th. I think it depends on how motivated you are to study. The science part, in particular, improves with study. Math will improve as you take more math courses. Reading and English will improve as you read more. A tough journalism course or good English teacher will improve your writing score. Good luck!

Not certain if there’s much of a correlation, but definitely above a 31 if you keep improving.

I’ve seen people with 25’s in 8th grade get 34’s, and I’ve seen people with 30’s get 32’s. It really just depends on what you’re like in three years–something you definitely can’t predict.

Well. I didn’t take the ACT in 8th grade, but I did take it in 7th. In 7th, I got a 17, and I got a 32 as my final score in December. Good luck!

Apollo, you’re, quite frankly, silly to assume that OP will perform similar to your DD.

OP, you are doing phenomenal! Any score is obtainable.

Your knowledge and ability build over time. Depending on how smart you are, you will probably do well. A lot of intelligence is genetic, so your score range is quite predictable. I would say at least a 32.

But also, intelligence is also environment based, so work hard in high school and study a lot. A 36 is definitely not impossible.

Good luck!

A lot of things will happen between 8th grade and your junior year, so you will obviously improve, but it is almost impossible to predict by how much. I would expect around the 32-34 range, but you just as easily could obtain a 36 or 28 !

My advice is to keep working hard and to stop worrying to much about the future!

That’s pretty impressive. I took it in 7th grade and got a 25. I haven’t taken the ACT since (I will soon), but I did pretty well on the ACT PLAN (30/32), so I am hoping for good results.

As said above, just keep working hard and doing what you’ve been doing.
