ACT Math will ruin me! Please help!

Is it possible to increase my math score by 7 or 8 points? I get 17 and 18s on the practice math portion of the ACT and that's just not okay. I really only want to get that up to a 25. Is it possible? The sad thing is that I've taken algebra 2 and precalc with trig and I got good grades in those yet I'm still getting horrible scores on this math portion. Math has never been my strongest subject, so it makes me even more nervous on tests like these.

I see a lot of people on here get good math scores so can any of you please give any tips you guys used? I'm really desperate. Oh and I'm taking the ACT on june 8 so I have a little over a month to prepare for the test. Please any advice is wanted! Thanks!

i would just get a Barron’s book or Princeton Review’s book, cuz they both go over all the possible topics covered in ACT maths. so if you do well in these test books, then i assure you, you can get 25+ on the ACT Maths.

I have the red book and cracking the act from Princeton. Do you think the Princeton one is good for its math section?

I personally think the PR book is rather useless.

I would go with Barron’s, or one of my colleagues has released an ACT Math book as well.

I’ve heard that the red book is a really great resource.

I used the red book and found it helpful

If you are scoring really low in Math like this, that means you have a lot of holes to cover. Simply doing practice test is not the most efficient way to boost your score. You really need to review your Maths. Go through the review materials on any of these books. Also identify your weakness in Math (e.g. gemoetry, algebra, etc) and focus more in that area.

For me I never had time to finish the last ones, so what I do now is work backwards. I went up from a 27 to a 31 through just that, and now I am just working on my skills to go up higher. Check out the ACT sparknotes review it is actually really helpful

Im looking to get a specific act math book or one with a good amount of questions. Right now im looking at the princeton 1296 questions, barrons 36 or barrons act math and science. Which one would you recommend more out of these two? Ive read a lot that barrons is a lot harder than the real thing so it makes the real test seem easier but would that be good or bad for me since im scoring pretty low right now? I mean on practice tests ive gotten my score all the way up to 27 but that was from reviewing the tests and waiting a few days before doing the same one again. So out of those two books which would be the best for me? And if there are any other recommendations then please state those as well. Also, is the act math for dummies book good considering I am a dummy in math lol.

Oh and jspence29 thanks for the tip.
I actually tried that and at first it worked but then on other tests it didnt. For me the questions in the beginning are easier and I wasnt able to get to those when working backwards since I spent too much time on the ones I started with lol but it was good to get a tip like that

I think Barron’s ACT 36 is the best book for you to review your strategies. One of my friends improved his score from 24 to 30. Barron’s would really help you. And the best way to boost your confidence is take a drill math test, review your mistakes and after a few days do the same drill again and make sure you don’t do the same mistakes. This is really a helpful strategy . So, make the most of it . All the best.

Oh and would any of you know what a good time of day is to actually study? I’m always switching from afternoon and night and I don’t if there is a good time to actually study. What did you guys do? Any help is appreciated. thanks! :)

Bump lol 10char
