I am looking to get into UChicago which is similar to an ivy school and I feel like the only thing stopping me is my low ACT.

A friend of mine who is a very good test taker and excels at English got a 33 on his ACT and is going to Princeton this new school year. I am going to be a senior and last year we were in all of the same classes. I hate to boast but I am a much smarter than he.

I have taken the ACT many times and 27 is the highest I can get. I am a really slow reader and I can only make it through the entire math section. The others maybe 70% through. I got a 36 on math (so easy) but only a 27 overall.

What can I do besides try taking the test again that will look like am a smarter student than what a 27 says I am. I have a feeling that my score will cause unacceptance from my dream school. HELP PLEASE!!

Possibly write about it on your essays, or if your ECs are really reputable, apply to a top tier school. There are always kids that have a “low” score and manage it get into a great school because of their ECs. Give it another shot but don’t report your score until you actually see it. I am retaking it this September. For reading, I’m reading a lot of magazines and books. You should try it.

Your not going to get into UChicago with a 27 ACT. I’m sorry; I’m just being completely honest. Your extracurriculars may be good, but consider the applicant pool. There are going to be thousands of people with amazing extracurriculars and better test scores than you have. If you want to have a chance at UChicago, you have to get your ACT up to at least a 30. If you don’t have at least a 30 on your ACT, the chance of you getting into UChicago is extremely low.
