ACT Prep Over the Summer

How well can I expect to do on the ACT in September if I spend all summer prepping for it using “Barron’s act 36” and “The Real Act Prep Guide”? I will probably devote between 10-15 hours a week, depending on if I do a practice test that week or not. I received a 25 on my last ACT, which was taken last September.

Probably this second chance could be better. Try to practice and study a lot. Have you taken the SAT?

No, however, I have taken the PSAT and my school just changed it’s regulations so instead of taking the act junior year, we take the sat.

Take a diagnostic test on the SAT and see what score you get. When did you take the PSAT?
What was your score?

@fer1231 Freshman year I think, I didn’t do GREAT, but i did ok.

Are you a soph, junior or senior?
Right now your 25 score isn’t bad. Try to strong your weakest subjects. I have heard that to build some confidence you need to increase your easiest sections.

@fer1231 Going to be a Junior

The real act prep guide is your best study guide. Always work with tests that are made by ACT.

I agree with fer1231. Barron’s can be helpful, but from my experience, the tests do not always match up with the real thing. You’d be better off using the real act prep guide to practice.

@elphiew Are you talking Barron’s as a whole or just the practice sections of barron? I thought the English section of Barron’s was very helpful; Although, I have only used “The Real ACT Prep Guide” for its practice tests. I’m not sure if the study section of the guide stacks up to Barron’s just yet.

I was talking about the practice sections of barron.

Keep in mind the ACT will use the new format of the test (check on its website). Hope that helps and best of luck!

I’m taking them in Sept too. Definitely planning to take one practise paper every two days with a minimum revision of 4 hours in the days between. It’s kinda overkill, but if that’s required, I’m more than willing to do so.

I recommend using the practice questions in the official ACT red book, but also using a supplemental online course to teach you the concepts and strategies.
