I took the ACT this April without writing and I got a composite score of 33, which I was really pumped about but then I learned that most colleges require the writing section. I at first was like "ok whatever I can just add that to my 33... but then I learned that you can not combine subsection scores or even the separate writing section with other scores. I don't know if I can improve on my score and I am worried that I will do worse a second time around. If I take the ACT again with writing (wish I had done that the first time) and do worse, would sending both scores to a college, even though the better one does not include writing, improve my chances?

Colleges use the highest compositive for the ACT, so just retake. Prep if you’re worried about your score.
