I took a practice ACT as a sophomore through Revolution Test Prep, and scored a 25. It was my first ACT I had ever taken, and I was highly disappointed with my results. Considering I had taken this with no studying at all, is it reasonable that I could score a 30+ on my real test this year (I'm a junior now)? Any responses would be greatly appreciated!!! I'm currently looking at Case Western Reserve, Oberlin, U of Illinois - Urbana, U of Alabama Birmingham, U Rochester, WUSTL, and a few others.

Yes, it is. I took my first practice test in August of last year (beginning of my junior year) and scored a 33, without practice. Then, there was a schoolwide, mandatory practice test in September, and I also got a 33 on that. Then, the night before we took the real one in May (school testing date), I went over the math section of a practice test (that was my only prep work at all) and got a 35. Then I had to take it again in June because my school didn’t offer it with writing for the school test date and got a 36, without any additional prep work.

In short, what you learn junior year definitely matters and will help you increase your score. As to prep books and tutoring and whatnot, since I didn’t really do any of that, I don’t know if it helps or not, but some swear by it.
