I took the ACT with writing at a previous date and got a decent score. I am scheduled to take the ACT-without writing - at a later date.
If I do better on the newer test, can I send better multiple-choice score to college and send in my writing score from the first test?

Say, hypothetically, I got a 29 on my multiple chose and a 24 on my writing the first time, and the second time i improve my MC score to a 31, can I send in my 31 from the second test with the 24 from my first?

(The college I am set on needs writing, and there is no way I can change the test options...)

You cannot send subscores from seperte tests (is that what you are asking??). You can only send the whole score from a particular test date.

Well the way I'm thinking of it is that the writing is a separate entity form the MC test and i can send it in seperatly... I don't want to send in different sub scores of MC tests...

No you can't. From the ACT web site FAQs

Can I send my Writing Test score without sending my multiple-choice scores?

No. ACT maintains a separate record for each test date, and it is ACT's policy to report scores only for entire test dates. In requesting a score report from ACT, you may not select test scores from different test dates to construct a new record; you must designate an entire test date record as it stands.

Well then. Thats bad news. Looks like my test tomorrow will be for naught.
...
Oh well I still get another shot at it in October...

Why not send both tests to your school? If you get a better composite score this time they may use that for your ACT score and accept the writing from the last one.

Bwaaah!? Thats what i was asking!

You would have to send the entire test from both dates - you cannot pick and choose to send parts of the test. But your school can choose how they use the tests you send. i.e. they may (or may not) be willing to use the best composite and the best writing from different tests (ask them).

Ok cool. I'll just take it tomorrow, see what happens, and ask my councilor at school.
Thanks for the help!

You're welcome.

btw when I said your school I meant your college (wasn't sure from your comment about talking to your counsellor if you understood that)

Good luck tomorrow.

Aghh Writing test is just as evil as the ACT itself lol.

Ya, ask the college(s) that you are applying to if you can send 2 ACT score reports with them taking writing from one and composite from the other.
