Hi, I’m looking into this certain college and they have an act range of 3 points. If I’m at the 75% is this good enough? I don’t think I can get over the 75% mark if I take it again. Should I aim for schools that my ACT is over the 75 percentile? Thanks.
The 75th percentile, when coupled with a good GPA, is typically good for admissions. Other things, such as extracurriculars also help, but even without particularly strong ones, you have a good chance.
Yes, that’s where you want to be, and especially, as noted, if grades are in line with test scores. I’ll note, though, that being at the 75% is a positive indicator, not a guarantee. Particularly at competitive schools, with lots of applicants, some students at 75% will not be offered admission.
A good, typical response here on CC is to spend your time and energy finding some other schools that are similar to this certain school that might be affordable and would also be desirable to you. Also, take the time to think about who you are, what you like, what type of relationships interest you. Then find opportunities that will help you grow in these areas. That will help you have a strong application and, more importantly, will prepare you well for the rest of your life.
The ACT gets your foot in the door. The rest of the application gets you over the threshold.
Do you have any teachers that you would like to use for recommendations? Have a meeting with them and tell them what kind of colleges you will be looking for and what you are hoping to get from an education. Ask them if they would feel comfortable writing a recommendation for college. If they says yes, follow up with an email thanking them.
If you have any ECs that you participate in outside of high school such as volunteering, give that information to the teacher as well. One of my kids wrote a 2 page “what people don’t know about me” kind of thing because her major activities were not known at the school.
wrong thread.
