Act reading tip for a foreigner?

Hello guys,
I´m from Germany and I´m going to participate the Act next week on Saturday 14th.
As English is not my mother tongue, I often have trouble at the reading section. I guess this is because of the lack of vocabulary. I only accomplish about half the questions :(
Do you have any hints for me which might help to increase my score?
Due to the fact that I´m a slow reader, I read the first and last paragraph first. After that, I read all the questions and answear the easy ones immediately. I remember the question of the "hard" ones in my head and search the text for the correct answears.

Are there any general ruels on which I can rely on?
I heard a question which offers the conjunction "and" is always correct in regard to the conjunction "but", is that right?
Are there further ruels?

Does anyone of you know aswell when the scores are going to be published online? I´m going to participate the test at the 14th of december. I need the results until January 10th. Is that possible considering the time between NYE and chrismas?
Cheers, I appreciate it"

The best way to improve your score is to keep reading, and this is especially important since you are not as familiar with English. I would suggest taking a lot of ACT practice reading tests and practice your reading skills by reading novels or magazines. Here are some helpful sources: [Chad Cargill’s Speed Reading](http://speedreading.chadcargill.com/) and [Chad Cargill’s ACT](http://www.chadcargill.com/). You probably will have to create an account but it is worth it. Also, you should see if you can get some ACT prep books or take free practice tests online. Best of luck! I know I answered this late since the December test has passed but if you take it in February this should help.

I agree with the post above me but it is always important to have a back-up strategy. If you are running out of time, focus on the first paragraph and last paragraph and read the first and last sentences of the other paragraphs. This has helped some people I know of when time is running out
