ACT: Reading

I cant beat the time limit given for the reading i can answer most of the questions correctly if i am given an additional 5 mins or so, but i cant do it in 35 minutes...any advice?

Do you read the passages thoroughly before you try answering the questions? If so, then you could try reading a question then look into the passage for the answer. For tone and main point questions you can usually eliminate wrong answers by reading the title and intro. Just takes practice.

also have trouble with time on the reading section...

so ur saying u shouldnt read the whole passage?

If you're having trouble with time do not read the passage. Just read a question and look for the answer.

I would just look at the question and search for the answer really fast. REALLY REALLY FAST

Start with the one you like most. I always go in this order:

Natural Science (fourth)

Social Science (second)

Prose Fiction (first)

Humanities (third)

Basically, if you start on the ones you like first, you'll be able to get more points than dragging along with one you don't really like.

What I do is very very quickly skim the passage to get a feel for it. Then I look for questions that are line specific (in line xx, the word ___ means, etc.). During these specific questions, I skim what's around it, before and after. This helps me answer those questions as well as understand the passage a bit better. Lastly, I do the general questions, and since I basically read the stuff around the line specific ones already, I can answer them with almost complete accuracy.

That's how I do it, and I finish almost exactly on time. I got a 31 Reading on my last practice test, and 27 on the February one (before using this method).

Wow! Tubaman i jus did that method you told me "the read the sections you like first" and i scored 10+ higher than normal... 22--->32 thats insane man!

i have the same problem, but i don't want to settle for this method, mainly cuz i'm aiming for a 36. my reading score is around 30 right now, and i'm loooking to bump it up to a 34. i know htat sounds hard, but i have a week off from school until the 14th, so any advice?

I get a 34-35 by reading in order of how I like them, but reading (not skimming) the passages before the questions. Prose is usually my hardest so I think I should skim the questions before reading the passage.
