Is the ACT required for admission into Dartmouth? I just read admissions info from a website that said it is. I never knew the ACT was required by any school.

Nope either SAT I with two SAT II subject tests or ACT with writing. Which website did you read that from?

hgates almost has it. You’re required the SAT I or the ACT w/writing AND 2 SAT II subject tests, regardless of which primary test you took.

yeah i figured that out. i actually clicked on the school info link at the top of the dartmouth discussion page and it had a list of necessary parts for the app. ACT was marked required so i was confused. thanks.

Do they prefer one over the other?

I’m pretty sure that there is no preference.

I’m fairly certain there’s no preference either. In fact I think I remember hearing somewhere that they convert ACT scores to their SAT equivalents before forwarding them to the adcoms so scores are viewed on the same level. May just be an overheard though. (If it means anything to you I submitted ACT in lieu of the SAT)

My son took both and scored relatively higher on the ACT- based on the equivalency tables that looked at- so he submitted the ACT. I think spunaugle is right- that is how I have heard it works.
