Hello there. I have a very important question. I was told by someone that the ACT can replace the SAT for college admissions. I am going to be a high school senior this year and I wanted to know if there is any truth to that statement? Can the ACT really replace the SAT for college admissions? By the way, not the SAT IIs I mean the SAT I. Please let me know. Thank you very much.

…yes it can. What else would the ACT be for?

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, which it is but I just wanted to make sure. So you’re saying every school accepts ACT’s as an alternate to the SAT? Like all I send to the school is my ACT score no SAT stuff and the ACT will do just fine?

As of 2007, every four-year college in the country accepts the ACT as an alternative to the SAT I. Depending on the school, you may still have to send SAT subject tests though.

Thank you very much for your help. Quick question, if I take the SAT and the ACT can I use the ACT as a substitution for the SAT IIs?

Again, it depends on the school. Some still require you to submit SAT IIs, whether or not you take the ACT. Others accept the ACT as a replacement for both the SAT I and the SAT IIs.

Thank you very much for you help. Would you prefer taking one over the other? Like should I take the ACT over the SAT. I took the SAT once and got a 1770 on it which is very bad for me. I want to get into a 7 year BS/MD program so I need these scores to be high. So do you think its better to take the ACT? Just looking for some input. Thanks.

Some people find the ACT easier, so I’d definitely try it. If you do worse, you can just not report your ACT scores.

Thank you again for your input. You’ve really helped a lot. Thanks.

Just make sure you take the ACT with Writing. The Writing portion is optional.

^Thanks for the advice. Why is it better to take the writing also?

Because colleges require it be done, most colleges wont take the ACT without writing

^Thanks for clearing that up.

The writing on the SAT is mandatory, so I would assume that to level the playing field, colleges require the writing on the ACT as well.

^Yeah that’s true. Thanks for your input.

If you are going to try the ACT, be sure to do some prep for it. It has some sections that are different from the SAT I. Peterson’s has a book of practice ACT exams. Especially look at the science section, which is all about being able to read and interpret the tables and graphs so you’re very familiar with it before you go into the actual test.

^Good call. Thanks!
