can someone please tell me the advantages of taking ACT over SAT? i've already took my first sat test and i did terrible..so i was thinking if i should take ACT instead or re-take my second SAT in Oct..Do most of the colleges see ACT? or do they weigh SAT more? Also, if i take ACT with writing essay portion, do i need to take SATIIs?

-i really need to know what i should do so please comment!!

the ACT is generally an easier test to some. A lot of that is due to the fact that on the ACT, you do the entire math block at once, the entire English block at once and so forth. That way your mind adjusts to the task at hand and isn't thrown off by the constant switching.
Also, the math section is extremely straightforward. Less puzzle type questions, and more questions about the basics of math.

I'd recommend taking the ACT. It's worth the time.

This (post 22) might help. It's a post that includes a link to "Compass" on a thread about schools that require SAT subject tests, but includes schools where the ACT might be substituted. There are many caveats. This question comes up a lot but the form moves 50 fast the answers don't get consolidated. Moderator? Maybe in the FAQ?

The schools in the first two categories require SATIIs whether you take the ACT or the SAT. The schools in the last category only require SATIIs if you submit the SAT.

thanks! it's really good to have these informations in mind. i appreciate it!
-also, i've checked the upcoming international test date, which is Oct. 27, and my concern is how many days does it take to see my scores? and can i apply for EA/ED round?
-i'm really new to ACT (i've just recently thought about ACT) and i want to know if i can aim for at least composite 30+ for the test in October 27 if i study hard for two months. (since i do not want to send my SAT scores..)

You should be able to apply EA or ED with the 10/27 test date, but it's hard to say. I would contact the schools you are applying to in order to ask.

I'd say it's very possible to get a composite of 30+, depending on who you are and how well you take tests. Take a practice test now, and then see where you need to improve =).

thanks runforfun529.
-is there a specific ACT prep. book that you recommend me to use? as i stated above, i'm really new to ACT so please comment and help me prepare..

I would say that the Real ACT book (put out by ACT) is pretty much your best bet. I think it only has a few tests though. Other than that, I'd say Princeton Review is pretty good (I read through the English review and it helped).

If you have any questions or you want tips on specific questions feel free to ask me through PM or something. I got a 36 on my ACT, so I sort of know what I'm talking about =P
