ACT SAT Retake?

hey... I am currently a high school freshman.

As a 7th grader, I got a 28 on the ACT (sorry, I don't remember the subscores...) and as an 8th grader, I got a 35 (R:34 S:35 M:36 E:34). This year, I took the PSAT just for the fun of it (I got a 217- I missed 1 on the math and it dropped the score 4 points! gr...)

I am wondering if I should retake ACT/SAT- I seem to do better on the ACT than the SAT, as the ACT is more balanced with math and science, versus the more literary based SAT.

My guidance counselor said that colleges like to see current scores..... is that true? I am a math and science nerd, Caucasian girl, honors student, band geek, and artist, but my focus is on academics, and I don't know what to do as far the retakes... will the colleges honestly care about when I took the tests? I know that they are important, but... if I do retake them, should I wait until I am a sophomore/junior/senior? thank you so much!!!

Personally, I would not retake the ACT if I got a 35 even if it was in 8th grade. I am sure there are other people on this forum more in tune with college admissions, but I can’t imagine that they would overlook a score because it wasn’t taken “recently”, especially since most of them say they look at your highest score. I have heard “highest” score mentioned several times, but I have never heard “most recent” score mentioned as being the most important.
I think you are in a great place.

Thanks for the advice!!!

Just retake the SAT. However, it would be best to contact the college if they’ll accept scores that are 2 years old and beyond
