ACT/SAT Score Needed

I’m in 9th grade and still have not taken SAT or ACT what score should I strive for

I wouldn’t stress too much about standardized test scores too much if you’re only in 9th grade. However, it’s fantastic that you’re already thinking so far ahead! While you still have time, keeping reading in your free time (whatever book it is) because that simple skill helps so much with the Critical Reading and Writing portions of both tests. In terms of Math, take challenging math challenges when they’re available and that will help you prepare.

If you’re looking into Stanford, I would think aiming for a 2100 SAT and a 31 ACT would be a good score to aim for. But these scores are neither a requirement for admission nor a guarantee of it. People will get in with lower scores and people will certainly get rejected with higher. So don’t stress too much about the actual score itself. You have plenty of time to improve your score if you need to so you could even just start by taking a practice SAT/ACT test.

Let me know if you have another other questions

Thank you. This was very helpful.

you need way higher scores than that to get into Stanford. shoot for 2300+ and 35+

I respectfully disagree with @andrewmcdona. Look at Stanford’s ACT/SAT ranges. For ACT, the mid-50% is 31-34. Granted, below 31 is reserved for “hooks.” But in this range (preferably the higher-end of it) will put you in the race. After that, focus on other parts of the application.

As evidence, watch these videos from a former Stanford Admissions officer. She specifically mentions 2150 SAT and 700+ in each category. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1586016-a-must-see-for-college-applicants-p1.html
