I honestly think the ACT to SAT conversion is completely out of proportion; there's a genuine disparity. Look at the percentiles (http://www.actstudent.org/scores/norms1.html) for instance, 90th percentile is still a 29 and colleges only count that as a 1320 (roughly). I really don't get it: colleges put means on sites ranging from "27-32." So, is that a competitive score. Schools like Brown has a mean of 28, and Dartmouth has a mean of 32; it's weird. Hypothetically speaking, if someone were to score a 29--that's still competitive, right? Don't get me wrong, I'm definately going for a good ACT score. Neverthless, could someone respond?

The colleges have their numbers right.

1550 99+
1500 99
1450 98
1400 97
1350 94
1300 90
1250 85
1200 80
1150 72

*Note percentiles do not reflect WHO takes the exam. ACT test takers could theoretically, on average, be a little less intelligent.

A 32 is usually 99th percentile and it is a pretty good target score.

Anymore feedback?

The population taking the ACT is smaller and thus less competitive. The percentages aren't equal on the SAT and ACT.

Some people think that there will be more people taking the ACT than the SAT this year.

Why would people take the ACT? Advantages?

ACT is easier...from personal experience and from everyone ive known that has taken it. a lotta students at my school got a 35 or 36 on the ACT but didnt break 1500 on the SAT.

2230 SAT, 27 ACT enough said

Wow, so it really does depend on the individual. Well that, and probably test preparation focus.

That is why a lot of people recommend taking both the ACT and the SAT. There are a number students that do better on one than the other.

For my son he actually got about the same on both so it didn't matter.

I thought the ACT was EXACTLY the same. I've taken the SAT twice and gotten the same score (1420, compostie 1440) on both of them. and when i checked the conversion site after I got my ACT it said that I would get a 32, which is exactly what I got. But it probably does depend on the person.

My friend got around 1300 on the SATs and got 32 on the ACT.

i personally think the ACT is for the quick minded people, while the SAT is for the people who can REALLY think. I am not exactly the fastest person, so I didn't do that well on the ACT (30) - i mean, you get half an hour to read four passages and answer forty questions...its ridiculous; the science part is also a killer if you are kinda slow. but the SAT should be easier, I think, cuz i heard you get more time, and there is no science part!!!! if it wasn't for the science part, i would be getting my aim score (32/33). my last ACT was: 34 english, 33 math, 28 reading, 26 science. yeah...it sux! so i am taking the SAT next year as a senior...i hope i do well. i got a 204 on the PSAT, which sux on this site, but hey, that was w/out prep, and i got the highest in my school, so i'm cool w/ that. but i will prepare for the SAT next year, and I hope to do better than 1350.

But, for a competitive ACT score, you're lookin at a 33 or higher. if you could get that, you're good to go for the highly selective scores. but like i have heard over and over again, it's not only the ACT/SAT score that determines admission - you really have to be an excellent student. so consider your ECs, GPA, class rank, essays, teacher recs, volunteering/work experience, and the level of your course load at your school (are you really challenging yourself, or just lettin yourself slide a bit?). you guys will be surprised...if a college really wants you, they will find a way to get you in, even if they need to combine scores or whatever. just do your best in school, try to stand out a bit, and you'll be fine. seriously, all of you guys are so passionate about getting into the best colleges...don't worry. don't forget that the kids on this site are some of the best students in the US - they are the competition, and so are you yourself! just believe in yourselves...you guys are better than you think!

yup, quick minded :)
I guess we don't have the patience for the SAT

If you can get a 32 on the ACT you should be able to get a 2250 on the SAT.

34 Act 229 Psat 2120 Sat
