ACT Score Conundrum

Hello, so I am a high school senior applying to schools. My A.C.T. composite is 29, but when it is super scored it could possibly surpass 30. Some of the schools I am applying for are looking for a 30-32 score range. However, I got a 12/12 on my writing. Does this 12/12 carry any additional weight? Or is it negligible to admission counselors?

Colleges rarely superscore the ACT. There are a variety of ways to treat the writing section. Answers from strangers (and I recognize that I am one) are not necessarily the most reliable.

To find the answers to your questions, search for the “Common Data Set” for each college to which you are applying, and check Section C to see their admissions policies.

Some schools although they require the ACT don’t really care about the writing (I have had admissions people tell me this several times). Like Schokolade said schools rarely superscore the ACT. Really your best bet is to check on the sites for individual schools for a more detailed understanding or talk with admissions people. I do recommend retaking.

Well, I have spoken with my admissions counselor at Babson and they do say they super score them. The main purpose of my thread though was is a 12/12 impressive to colleges or no?

uhhhh hi artsygirl13? how the hell do you recommend retaking when he got a perfect score on one section…you need to reevaluate your own analysis if you think you can get higher than a 12 on the writing part. also, you completely failed to answer the question posed. I personally have visited many schools within the range that this bright young man Tcur878 is applying to and most if not all have told me specifically that they superscore ACTs. are you 78 maybe they didnt when you went to school.

As I said earlier “Some schools although they require the ACT don’t really care about the writing (I have had admissions people tell me this several times).” Unless the schools you are looking at specifically state whether or not the writing section is important to them you should contact them. Some will find this impressive, some will not even look at it.

@smdartsygirl No, I recommend him retaking to increase his composite score. If most of the schools he is interested in have an average accepted student ACT range of 30-32 it would be beneficial to increase the composite score by a point or two (especially since most scores don’t superscore the ACT). Although the score is good, one should always aim for 75th percentile and not 25th.

Does Babson College?

If they are not impressed by a 12/12 what will they be impressed with, pray tell oh great and wise artsygirl13. Pittsburgh pennsylvania is a dumb hometown and why have you answered 622 posts do you ever leave your computer

I am not going to go into this beyond this post, though like I already said not all schools care about the writing. I do not consider my hometown unintelligent and do not understand your basis for said statement. Please be less critical of others, this site is meant to be a source of helping each other and gaining knowledge, not criticizing others for no reason. Also is trolling really necessary (as implied by your username)?

@tcur878 I checked the website for Babson and does not state whether or not they do. If you spoke with an admissions counselor for the school and they said they do I would assume that the admissions person is correct. If you want confirmation you can always call the admissions office.
