Hi! I'm new on here and I joined because I'm stressing a ton about my ACT scores.
I am in 10th grade right now and I took the ACT for the first time on February 9. I studied a minimal amount (literally 30 minutes maybe) for it and figured I would just go for it and see how I did the first time without much help.
Scores were posted tonight and I went online and checked.
Composite- 30
English- 28
Math- 30
Reading- 31
Science- 29
Writing Score- 08
I've never taken the ACT before, and I'm only in 10th grade so I definitely plan on taking it at least four more times, but I'm really concerned about my scores. For a 10th grader's first try, how are my scores? I really would appreciate some honest opinions. My dream is to be able to get a scholarship to Duke, and I know I need to get my score up to around a 35 for that, but is a 30 for a 10th grader's first try good or is it just average?
Thank you so much for opinions!

First, don’t stay up until 3:30 a.m. waiting for your ACT to post. That is ridiculous. Get to bed at a decent hour and get plenty of rest. I don’t know about Duke, but many schools are placing less emphasis on standardized test scores and looking at your resume. A 30 is a great start. Don’t stress. Enjoy playing soccer. Study an appropriate amount. Don’t be a slacker or overdo it either. Listen to your parents. They usually have good advice. Why are you asking ramdom strangers about your future?

30’s a good start. Only take it 2 more times max though. Taking it too much makes you look desperate to certain colleges that require all scores.
