ACT Scores

My son took the ACT the first time and got a low score. He took it the 2nd time and improved by 4 points If he takes it the 3rd time and gets the same score as the first time, will Admissions think the 2nd time was a fluke because 2 of the 3 times, he got the same score or will they only consider his highest score?

Did he study the second time, which is what would explain why he did better? If he continues to study I feel like you wouldn’t do as poorly as the first time. He may do even better and if he doesn’t do as good as he did the second time colleges will consider the highest score. Personally I think if your son has been studying and continues to study he should do well on 3rd test.

he does not have to send all ACT to many of the colleges and he can delete the scores if it is a concern

Most schools do not require you to send all scores from all administrations of the test.

So unless your kid is applying to one of the few schools that do require all scores to be sent, your question is irrelevant.

Having said that, most kids do get higher scores on subsequent tests. Practice; prepping; familiarity; and just getting older.

He has been studying and is being tutored. The problem is the 2 practice tests that he’s taken after test 2 are the same score as test 1, which leads me to believe that his 3rd test will be closer to test 1.

Most colleges only consider the highest scores.

Your kid is a gem. All of mine refused to take the ACT test more than twice.

Lol, @momofthreeboys , my kids announced up front that they’d be taking the SAT only once and their scores were their scores.

recommend you don’t automatically send all scores. send the best. Keep in mind too that some score better on SAt. COnsider taking both.

Some of the better schools want all scores of all attempts - which is of course fine, as long as all applicants know going in what the rules are, and are treated the same. It allows the schools to weed out the students whose primary EC is test-taking.
