ACT Sept 2012 MATH

i think it was C…the final answer had to equal 21 or -21 i think

You know we have been arguing all day about the nm question and earlier we proved it was 0, so you should not act like he is stupid for saying 0. i think there is still no clear right chose yet.
I think mn were meant do be different.

My comment was meant for howmanyofme. it did no quote for some reson.

@jlee Really? It had to equal 21/-21? I remember solving the initial equation and getting -17. All the answers equaled either 15,16,-15,17, or -17. I put -17.

Anyone else have any input on the simplifying equations question?

“You know we have been arguing all day about the nm question and earlier we proved it was 0, so you should not act like he is stupid for saying 0. i think there is still no clear right chose yet.

Um… where in my comment did I say he was stupid. And tell me where from “distinct positive pairs” do you get “distinct positive integers”

If you want to argue, be my guest. BUT GIVE ME A REASON. Don’t just sheepishly say that you think the answer is 0.

@HeyImAlok
you might be right…i do remember working with a -17…
I’m hazy on this question

it was like -5 or -4

@howmanyofme
Distinct positive pairs means the number zero cannot be M or N because zero is neither negative nor positive. M + N = MN. The only way for that to be true than is if both the MM and the NN pairs are [2,2]. However, distinct implies different values for the pairs. Therefore the answer would be 0.

For the stupid comment, the way you rough it. It look like you meant to say cant you read i worked this problem earlier. but in reality there has been answers from 0 to 3.
think if the act meant for n and m to be the same number then they would have sad something like how may distinct sets of 2 integers if any have the same product and sum. Not use the m and n to confuse people.

it was just positive integers. shot kids

Did we conclusively find out what the intersection shapes question was? Had to find the angle. E was ‘not enough information’. Some people said 30, some said 60, some said… 22.5. I don’t know. I put E.

i read a lot of 30’s but i put E because there is no way to know…unless the question gave us some given like congruent lines or something… but i didn’t catch anything because i was short on time.

I have no idea what the questions was but it was something like (x^4y^8) (x^2y^4)^3 or something like that. I got like x^10y^20. Would you multiply the cubes to the 2 and 4 power to get x^6y^12 then just add the exponents? I think thats what I did.

the answer was something like x^15 y^20
dont remember exactly but let me give you an example

(x^2)^7 = x^14 you multiply here
(x^3)(x^4) = x^7 you add here

I am breaking down because of the science section :’( but here are the answers to every Math question I can remember, which are a few

*The angle between the two intersecting circles : 30
*How many went to the regular home games : ~30000
*How many distinct pairs of integers m+n = mn: 1
*The one with the a’s and the x’s and the graph at the end of the section: |x^2-a^2|
*Working on weekend: Something along the lines of (or maybe exactly)
“Because she worked on Saturday, she did not work on Friday”
*Some trig answers were sin(40/50) and sqrt(26)/5 I believe.
*The one with 3 squares and a triangle was a^2 + b^2 + c^2 +bc/2
*The mat was 168(Not so sure because I am getting this answer based on what I remembered from the problem)
*The Spanish people who did not take Calc: Either 10 or 7, the answer was in a simple venn diagram, but I think it was 10.

“How many distinct pairs of integers m+n = mn: 1”

Is this right?! I put 1 too, but there has been a ton of debate as to whether or not it meant that m and n had to be different numbers.

Anyone know what the curve might be like this year? And for number 59, the angle between the two intersecting circles one. I think i put 30, but i don’t remember what answer choice that was. Was it like B or something? I remember getting 2 B’s for 58 and 59.

For the venn diagram one, the answer was just the singe number in top of the diagram, right? (the number of people who only took spanish and nothing else)

Were the last two answers bubbled like this?

( )( )( )( )()
( )( )( )()( )

The venn diagram question I put 3, it was asking for people who took Spanish but not Calc/Chem - the people who only took Spanish. Or, that’s what I thought the answer was based on my interpretation.

Last 2 on math, I remember B and K.
