My son took ACT (first time) recently and scored C35 (E36, M36, S36, R30) as a sophomore. He has 4.0 unweighted and 4.4 weighted (all APs and Honors). Do the elite schools look primarily at composite, english and math in the ACT scores? I don’t see much about reading and science. He hasn’t received writing score yet. He would love to go to a school like MIT or Caltech or Stanford…should he take the ACT again because of the low reading score? Thoughts and chances?
To most colleges, it does not hurt to take more ACT tests. But for Stanford as you mentioned, it DOES need all your scores. So if in the worst scenario, your son messes up the second try, it would not help him for Stanford.
You can delete ACT scores and there is no trace of you taking the test after you delete it.
I don’t think a 36 is worth that much more than a 35. for your son to improve the composite, which is what really matters, he would have to get either 2 35’s or just one 34, very hard. It is still worth taking again because he will most likely improve the reading score. A 32 or 33 looks a lot better than a 30, especially on the reading section, which is more important then the science section for example.
