How does the ACT essay compare to the SAT essay? On the SAT essay, I received a 12, with a strategy of adapting pre-planned examples, utilizing a variety of rather large vocabulary words, and filling up every square inch of writing space. Can the same strategy be utilized effectively on the ACT essay, or is another approach best? If so, what has worked for you?

I can tell you that the ACT essay definitely has to be written differently than the SAT essay. I have seen plenty of people score lower simply because they do not know the distinction. On the ACT essay, length isn’t near as important. You need to have your essay contain counter arguments. There are other distinctions, but I am not familiar with them.

I would spend 2-3 minutes preparing my essay, about 25 minutes writing my essay, and 2-3 minutes polishing my essay.
