Is it worth getting a separate ACT practice book when I already have SAT books? How similar are these two tests?

The format and scoring are different, your strategy would be different too. You do need a different prep book for ACT.

They are definitely different. ACT has science whereas SAT does not. ACT does not penalize wrong answers whereas SAT does. ACT has more questions to be answered in less time while the SAT gives more time to answer each individual question.

The questions and answers were also created from a slightly different framework. DEFINITELY study separately.

Also, SAT has more sections and goes back and forth among them.

Oh, how is the ACT structured? @billcsho

4 Parts

In its order
English, 45 questions, 70 minutes
Math, 60 questions, 60 minutes
Reading, 40 questions, 35 minutes
Science, 40 questions, 35 minutes

The Math Test always has the same amount of problems under a certain category (trig, plane geometry etc.), the reading always has a prose fiction, humanities, social science, and natural science passages.

Science will have a “Conflicting Viewpoints” passage.

You can look more in-depth structure and info by searching around

Don’t forget about the assay. It is highly recommended to take it.
