Is it easier to score a 36 on the ACT than a 1600 on the SAT? I have lots of friends that have scored a 36, but they all scored in the mid-upper 1500s on the SAT. Every online conversion says a 1550 is only a 34, but I believe that conversion is incorrect. I think a 34 is about a 1480-1500. Am I right?
Each person is different as to how hard one test is vs. the other. The online concordance I’ve seen shows a 34 to be a 1520-1550.
College Board and ACT plan to publish a new concordance table this summer.
Probably, though the SAT range for 34 may extend higher than that. Currently, the 99th percentile starts at 34 for ACT and 1480 for SAT.
Anecdotally I’ve heard of plenty of 36s and never heard of a 1600 (meaning an in person real person that I know, not online).
It’s ‘easier’ to get a 36 because you can have a 35 in 2 sections or a 34 in one section and still get a 36. A 1600 is two perfect sections, and a 36 is not necessarily that. Take both tests for practice and do whichever you score better on.
