ACT Writing Score not yet released

I took the ACT plus writing in September and Im planning to apply by November 1st. My ACT Composite score has been released, however the writing hasn’t. The CommonApp has no option for “not yet released” for the testing section, and so I am not able to submit the application. What should I do?

my son’s in the same boat. we printed the unofficial document and forwarded to the school with a note that ACT will forward the official document when they get their things together.

So how would I move on with the CommonApp then?

you do not have to self report your scores on the common app… just leave that section blank.

A lot of colleges accept ACT scores throughout November for ED. I know Dartmouth and Cornell are like that; check if your college does it too.

Im still unsure about how I’m going to report my scores. Do I say the writing hasn’t been released yet in the additional section in the commonapp, or do I use the ACT website? I understand that I can leave the testing section blank, but that’s why Im unsure in the first place. The ACT website tells me of an Additional Score Report, that can only be submitted when all the scores from the test are available. But then I still have the option to submit one, for a fee. What should I do?

This is from my daughter’s school:

Dear Counselor,

ACT is aware that some of your students have not yet received their September writing test scores, and we are working to report those scores as quickly as possible. Thousands of new scores are being released each day. The scoring and reporting of the writing test is taking longer than typical due to the introduction of the enhanced design of the writing test. We anticipate all writing scores will be released within the stated 3-8 week timeframe communicated on the ACT student website and in other materials (by November 6th).

We understand that your students may be facing important application and scholarship deadlines. Unfortunately, official ACT score reports are not available to them, your high school or colleges until after their writing test scoring is complete. Because of this, ACT has alerted colleges that some September writing scores have not yet been reported.

ACT has been in contact with many institutions about their upcoming application deadlines and found that different colleges have different preferences and acceptable options for students still awaiting their ACT writing scores. For this reason, ACT is encouraging students to contact applicable college admissions offices and/or scholarship agencies individually to learn their specific procedures under the circumstances.

Potential options may include:

Submitting a copy of ACT’s email to the student as evidence that they are among the impacted students
Submitting a screenshot of the student’s September multiple-choice scores
Sending scores from a prior ACT or SAT test if available. (Additional information on submitting a prior ACT test score can be found at http://media.act.org/documents/septemberscores.pdf)
As a reminder, students can view their multiple-choice scores—ACT composite score, subject test scores (English, mathematics, reading and science), and subscores—on the ACT student website.

We know and appreciate how hard your students work to prepare for the ACT test, and we understand how important this is to them. We are working as quickly as possible to report all students’ scores.
