I have wanted to go to UCLA for a long time and I even sent my SAT scores there already. I want to double-major in English and theater/acting. There are a few problems, though, and now I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to apply. One, I have heard that you can't double major if you're getting a major in the drama department. Two, an audition is required for the acting major, but my family cannot afford to send me to CA for an audition that may not even get me accepted. Also, I have heard that the CA schools have been having budget problems, and I'm worried that that could negatively impact my chances of financial aid. Can anybody tell me more about any of these issues? Should I apply or not?

I think theater/film majors cannot double major because their major is very demanding already, but you can always pursue a minor. You should definitely give UCLA a call and ask them if a theater/english major is possible in case. Yes, UCLA’s theater program is very competitive, but its pretty amazing too. I had friend who went there, and are very happy. As for the budget problems, it is what it is. If the school sees that you are in severe need of aid, you will probably get it. However if you are on the edge, don’t count on it. Im guessing that you are out of state? I can say that you MIGHT have a higher chance of getting in, but it will 90% depend on your audition. I personally believe that if you really believe that ucla is the right school for you, pursue it.
Good Luck!
