I was recently accepted as an Acting Major at UArts and I was just wondering if anyone had any information on it, or better yet their opinions on it. The website is fairly vague as to everything they offer.

Thanks!

The acting program at UArts is very strong and is Meisner based. Students have 6-7 1/2 hours a week of training in their core Acting Studio class, depending on semester, plus a load of other classes such as voice and speech for actors, movement, stage combat, theatre history, technical theatre, directing, neutral mask, audition technique, script analysis and acting for film and tv. Acting majors and MT students take the same core acting studio classes together and acting students can also take a minor in MT and pick up dance, singing voice and MT performance technique. There are about 8 productions a semester for which acting majors can audition. The full curriculum is available on the website with hyperlinks to course descriptions as is info on all the productions for the 2008-2009 school year. There is also a description of all the venues owned by UArts and used for school productions which include a couple of newly renovate black boxes, a mainstage, a cabaret type theatre and an 1880 seat proscenium theatre that is Broadway quality and often used by professional touring companies as well as by the Pennsylvania Ballet.
