Activities

Do you have a chance if you got zero activities/extracurriculars?

The simple answer is no.

For most colleges, ECs are not that important.

@paul2752 You’re answer is confusing and contradicting. You’re saying you have “No” chance if you have zero EC’s. But then you proceed to say EC’s are not that important.

Yeah. So it’s a yes or no? @paul2752

@unicornbae I think it may hurt your chances since all you would have, assuming you have good grades, is your grades and not really anything else.

OP, I said “NO” as in “it will NOT hurt” you for not having ECs in 90% of colleges. It’s the top 10% colleges that will want to see your ECs.

I misread your sentence as: “Do I have a zero chance …”, so I see your confusion.

But I have one activity, I don’t know if I should consider it an activity tho. When I was in high school, my teacher choose me to be his assistant to help the other students in my class. It’s kind of like tutoring. Can I write it down? @prettygreat

Yes, put the student aaaostant. Do you have ECsv outside of school, like a job? Volunteer work?

I’m on a gap year right now. I think I’m going to do volunteer work like once? Is that good? @LuckyCharms913

I’m sorry if my question is confusing you @paul2752

Think broadly about the question. What are you doing during the gap year? I wouldn’t say that a one-time volunteer stint is an activity, but maybe there is something more extensive you could do?

Enlighten me then. can you give me an example? @LuckyCharms913

Well, maybe you volunteer at a library once a week. Or a nursing home. Or you organize a 1-time event like a food drive or coat drive, but these might be tougher if you aren’t still in school. Are you working during the gap year?

But I should note, don’t try to add some random things just to have something to write down. Is there something you are interested in that you now have time to work on?

No I’m not. I plan to do a driving lesson and religious activities this year @LuckyCharms913

During your gap year, do whatever is meaningful to YOU and your future, not something just to impress the colleges

Maybe something related to the religious activities would work if it shows involvement in your community or perhaps leadership. But don’t worry too much; ECs are a nice addition but they won’t ruin your application at many schools.

If ECs are not really that matter, then what’s the most important thing to get admitted?

Well where are you going to apply? What test scores do you have? What GPA? How much can you pay?
