Activity Resume

If any of you Penn acceptees (applicants too) have made activity resumes and would be willing to share the format with me, I’d greatly appreciate it. You can just e-mail me the text file

i can just offer u this advice- keep it to a page, two at MOOOOOOST
they really don't like too much extra stf

mine was four pages and i got in

moral of the story... put in the things that you've done and the awards you've won. if it's one or two pages, then it's one or two pages. if it's not, it's not.

Mine was like one and a half pages. With the activity, grades, and then a summary of what I did and stuff.

catch, can i see how you set it up?

i'm wondering whether i should just list what i've done or provide a sentence or two of description

it just seems so empty if i just list

I did a 2 page single spaced resume, but it was for speech and debate only. All my other ec's I just wrote in on the application itself. This might not be true across the board, but my regional admissions director told me that they really only want supplemental resumes for activities that you're really really involved in (otherwise it can look like you're spreading yourself too thin, which they don't like to see).

i agree with manyalasagna. on the application it says to only include a supplemental resume highlighting one activity. mine was still two pages, but highlighting your most important extra-curricular involvement really helps them understand YOU, not all the things you've been drug into over the years.

if you guys want my activity resume (which i thought was pretty good lol), e-mail me at jewboyleo@comcast.net

Well Redmakers, I'll just leave my "format" up here.

Activity: XXXX
Grades: XXXX
Summary: XXXX (I did about four lines for each just summarizing my experience).
In Addition:XXXX (I only had to do this for ONE of my activies, because it was a HUGE project and I had to expanded it some more).

I bold font the "Activity, Grades...etc. I don't know how to bold on CC =/

The thing is, I only chose to expand my "MAJOR" activies. Like, I didn't summarize my "basic/useless clubs".
Activity: NHS
Grades: 11,12
Summary: Member

mine was five pages and i got in.

my resume was only 2 pages and i got in ED. the format was:

Education:
Extracurricular Activities:
Volunteer Activities and Community Service:
Work Experience:
Awards and Recognition:
Hobbies and Interests:

worked for me!

Do you think the inclusion of References is necessary?

Also, should I include a section on Personal background if its relevant to my intended major? It's just that my major is IR and I have lived in three different continents. Would it be futile to mention them?

Catch: what did you put under grades that wasn't already in your transcript?

redmarkers-- information about the different continents you've lived in and how this affects your major and why you wnat to go to penn should prolly be in you 'why penn?' essay. also when catch said she put "grades", i think she was talking about the years in which she participated in the activity

Haha that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clearing that up. I must be tired.
