Thanks a lot. From all ive read about Chicago, it sounds like a school that I would really like, and I still think ill apply if I decide to transfer. I will definitely be applying to MIT for a transfer, but I know I dont have much of a chance there.

Thanks, OneMom. Well-written and useful post. Reading it gave me more ideas about how I should think about which college to go to.

You're welcome, CollegeBound2007. Good luck, ckmets13, with the possible transfer. I would be surprised if you did not get into Chicago as a transfer. Not sure how many transfers MIT takes. If you want to go there, I hope it works out. With you going to school in the same area, you might have time to get to know the place. I've heard that playing rare sports that MIT competes in helps. Not sure if it's worth changing yourself for a school, though. I also thought about transferring there, but never applied. Who knows, Boston College may work out a lot better than you expect.

Thanks, i believe the MIT transfer rate last year was 11/189, while Chicago's was around 30%. Im also looking into Notre Dame (was waitlisted), Cornell (waitlisted), Duke (deferred, rejected), and maybe Harvard just because I like the Boston/Cambridge area and of course its Harvard, though id much rather go to MIT or even cornell than harvard

Here's what I would have said your chances were:

Duke, Early Decision- deferred, then rejected SLIGHT REACH
MIT- rejected REACH
Princeton- rejected REACH
Harvard- rejected REACH
Chicago- waitlisted (not taken off) WEAK MATCH
Notre Dame- waitlisted (not taken off) WEAK MATCH
WashU- waitlisted (not taken off) Slight Reach
Cornell (CAS)- waitlisted (not taken off) SLIGHT REACH
Johns Hopkins- accepted WEAK MATCH
Boston College- accepted (attending) Safe match
Wake Forest- accepted Safety
SUNY Stony Brook- accepted (residential scholar) Safety
Penn State- accepted (rolling) Safety

I'm surprised you got into JHU and not UChicago and ND.

is weak match closer to slight reach or safe match?

also, i dont think wake was a safety, and i think BC was a match, not a safe match, but otherwise i agree

Weak match is inbetween slight reach and match.

20-20 hindsight

illl bump this by popular request

It's good you looked up the stats for transferring into MIT. In some years, it is under 5 taken (!). Very difficult.

yea, i know i dont have much of a chance, but if i want to go there the only way to do it is to apply, so i might as well try

wow, congrats.i thought ud be accpeted into Princeton.but surprisingly.no but Still...ur grade 11.grades are very very impressive!

basically the only reason i even considered applying to princeton (even though i really like the school) is the fact that they dont look at your freshman grades. they do look at class rank though, and thats what killed me.
