Lots of kids from my school got waitlisted by Northeastern. Then again, they had low stats (I think most had like 3.4 UW GPA’s + 1950 SAT). However, I know zilch about Northeastern - for some reason I crossed it off from my list almost immediately, I forget why. I crossed a lot of schools in the Boston area off immediately (even though I left Boston) with the exception of BU, Harvard, and MIT. However, I cut MIT off because I felt it would be too much like CMU (too techy, even though I kinda like tech stuff I’m not THAT into it) and I’m kinda regretting that.

Anyways, remember that how one fares in admissions at one school is not necessarily indicative of how one will fare in admissions to another school. While this example may not be apt for the two schools you guys have all been comparing, my friend and I applied to UMich and UChicago EA. I got into UMich LSA Honors and got deferred by UChicago. My friend got deferred by UMich and got into UChicago (my friend is an amazing writer, though, so that may explain it). Another one of my friends got into UPitt but got rejected by PSU. And, last year (just checked my school’s naviance), someone got waitlisted at Northeastern, but got accepted to BU. Seriously guys, don’t lose hope and just relax till D-Day (no, not the WW2 D-Day).

Originally Northeastern was my first choice, but after being deferred EA and then wait-listed RD, (93 UW GPA, 97 W GPA, 1870 SAT + tons of EC and “sensational” essay according to my ap lit teacher along with great recs) Boston University is now my first choice. I’m so anxious to find out, but now like others I’m nervous to hear back because of NEU. Several people from my school got in with significantly lower stats, and most won’t even end up attending which is frustrating for me.

I’m hoping the BU decision is the 26th, I can’t wait much longer. Do they do things similarly to Northeastern by posting their decisions by state at different times? Or are they all up at once?

I got deferred and then rejected from Northeastern… but I applied for nursing which is known to be an extremely hard major to get into there. I know some people who didnt get into Northeastern last year but they got into BU. skazu27, theres still hope for BU (I still have some hope for myself too haha)!

yea but im not too hopeful now. I applied to SMG, which is one of the hardest schools at BU since I was a little overconfident cuz of the acceptance rates. I shouldve sticked with cgs. damn…

is SMG Sargent college by any chance? Because I applied to Sargent without realizing that its a lot harder to get into than CGS… I’m so nervous!

OMG! thank god for this. i am sooo nervous. bu is my number one school and i got into northeastern with the jan start program and was sooo mad and sad cause i though that i would have no chance whatsoever with bu. hopefully we alllll get in and i cannot wait to hear back. i wish they would hurry up!!!

and i think if i get in the only reason i wouldnt go is because of money :(

also, northeastern isnt in the best part of boston, thats for sure

I used to live in Southern Cal…it’s overrated. USC itself is in a horrible neighborhood (my family almost moved there instead of moving to PA but the area was just so bad that we decided against it) and there’s so much pollution in the area it’s ridiculous. However, I guess I have a bias in this debate because I’ve loved Boston every time I’ve gone up there. Hopefully the Boston schools I applied to (Harvard + BU) love me back :P.

USC isn’t that hard to get into (don’t get me wrong, it’s still somewhat selective)- its acceptance rate is artificially low, I guess you could say. Up until this year, it had a lower acceptance rate than UChicago and UMichigan, but it’s harder to get into UMichigan or UChicago than it is to get into USC (based on raw objective stats - GPA + SAT). Granted, it is harder to get into than BU, but not by THAT much.

As well, USC doesn’t have that much academic prestige; it mainly has some public prestige due to its football program. It’s a good university, yes, but, again, not that much better than BU.

For those of you who say LA isn’t “all that”, the immediate area around USC IS complete trash. Not all of LA is like that; just visit UCLA/Beverly Hills/Westwood :)

beverly hills is great and hollywood is ok but the actual city where the disney but the actual city, downtown la sucks, san francisco is way better imo

I don’t think anyone said LA was all that, just saying.

USC isn’t in the best of neighborhoods but hey let’s compare this.
USC deaths this yr vs. Cornell Suicides

Who’s winning???
Okay, maybe that was uncalled for.

Anyway, Annenberg and SCA are two amazing schools as well. Marshall is very highly ranked as well. What does BU have to compare to that?

BU is a good school. However, just look at rankings. They aren’t even close, and USC has only been going up. Years ago UCLA had a clear advantage, now USC is pretty much caught up, if not better than UCLA, despite their “Westwood” location. Which is “so much better”.

I’m not downing BU, I’m just saying. USC is a better school. They aren’t “close” in my opinion when it comes to prestige. UMich isn’t really comparable, but yes UChicago is more selective, AND a better school.
