Actual decision date

yeah, I regret applying there cause their econ program sucks! But I personally would pick USC over BU.

UMichigan is completely comparable. In fact, USC isn’t even in the same league as UMichigan. As an institution as a whole, it is probably one of the premier universities in the world. It has renowned faculty in nearly every major discipline, it has top-notch professional schools, and it continues to get better and better. USC, while improving, does not even come close to matching UMichigan in this aspect. If you really think that it does, then please show me how.

As for it being more selective; again, admissions percentages are deceiving. First off, UMichigan doesn’t superscore, so, as a result, its SAT score ranges are slightly lower than other universities of the same caliber.

According to [Office of Undergraduate Admissions: About Michigan](Explore & Visit | University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions), UMichigan’s SAT ranges for accepted students are the following:

SAT Critical Reading 620–730

SAT Math 660–770

SAT Writing 630–730

USC’s? According to College Board:

SAT Critical Reading: 620 - 710
SAT Math: 650 - 740
SAT Writing: 640 - 730

94% of UMichigan’s admits were in the top 10% of their HS class…while only 86% of USC admits were in the top 10% of their HS class.

As you can clearly see, UMichigan, even though it has a higher admissions rate, is slightly more selective than USC.

That has nothing to do with Cornell. It has to do with the students that go to Cornell.

What what and what?

What rankings? The silly ones published by the US news or the ones that actually measure institutional quality as a whole? I’m looking at an international ranking - The Times Higher Education Supplement Rankings (http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2009/results)- and I see Boston U at 54th in the world. I see UMichigan at 19th. UCLA? 32nd. Where do I see USC? 112th…

Boston U is 65th in the Peer Assessment category; USC 162nd.
Boston U is 82nd in the Employer Review category; USC 167th.
However, USC does beat BU in the citations of faculty category.

Again, I would hardly say that USC is ‘that much’ better than BU. In fact, BU might be better - not only in terms of prestige and academics, but, again, the area that BU is in is much better than the area that USC is in.

personally id choose USC over BU if i get into both just cause itll make my life easier (live in LA so I dont have to pay for transportation). Ive visited usc a couple times and it’s pretty nice. I haven’t visited BU but will over the spring if I get in.

also applied USC and BU…BU over USC because college Puck…no sports get more raw than puck…but its a tough call between the two of them…but love watching puck too much

edit: hockey east > Pac10 (any sports)

double edit:its one thing to be loud in a stadium
but it is another for everyone to be cheerin in unison attacking the other team
fake tripple edit: anyone have a definitive date on either school

Many think BU releases their decisions this friday due to past year dates, but no one is sure

UMMM i hate how bu takes forever to read apps and how they dont update us on anything …

guess were supposed to randomly expect an email to pop up in our email within the next 2 weeks???

good job bu.

they are the second private university in USA after NYU with the most applications, give them a break lol

lol still do not excuse them for all this suspense

well lets hope its this friday i cant stand to wait another week, im already loosing sleep every night about it

When I said “UMich isn’t really comparable” I meant, it is a public university. It’s sometimes more difficult to compare publics with privates, thus I did acknowledge the private university you mentioned and how it is more competitive than USC, ;)

I would acknowledge other parts of your posts, but frankly it’s 340am and I’m off to school in a little bit and need some rest. I would have had more respect if after I mentioned Annenberg, SCA (School of Cinematic Arts), and Marshall that you would have acknowledged those are great schools. Marshall is one of the best business schools in the nation.

BU Better than USC in academic prestige??? I don’t think so. Not even close. Boston College and USC are more equal, and BC is undoubtedly more prestigious than BU.

You must have listened too much to sat4lyfe, hahah.

yo, this debate got pretty heated, aha. i, too, applied to both usc & bu. [hey, that rhymes :)]

anyways, i WISH we get notified this friday!

I’ve been telling people we find out Friday. soooo. Saturday is my birthday- make it a good one BU.

I think we will hear from BU soon, GWU release decisions tomorrow after 6pm.

i hope we here back from BU asap!!! I NEED to start booking flights!!! and I CANT WAIT TILL TOMORROW FOR GWU!!! im so excited.

i think we will hear soon because a lot of people heard in mass from BC and usually they release decisions around the same time. i hope its real soon though. ive been waiting for 4 months to find out and i cant believe its finally almost here. now that its soo soon i don’t want to find out! i hope we alllll get in ahha (:

so i still say usc over bu lol but i guess it depends, theyre both pretty big and urban so they are pretty similar. but for me the warm weather at usc is a plus not gonna lie…plus:

usc is the 26th top national university
ucla is 24th, another school i applied to lol
(anyone know bu’s rank?)

i basically just want to find out if i got into the rest of my schools before i make a final decision =] the waiting is killing me!!!

How does BU send their decisions? Email or snail mail?

E-mail notification. Then you will check your BU status, and later on receive a letter in the mail. Not sure if they will send rejections/waitlist letters, a lot of schools are trying to conserve on paper.

Thank You so much! And everyone says Friday night ! Do u think that is true?

Friday NIGHT? WHAT? Why not like 5 PM or 2 PM or something like that. Wouldn’t it be before 5 PM seeing how they leave work at 5 PM?

Can people call to confirm this Friday decision date? And the time too?
