Sorry to disappoint, but I actually need some advic... on college.... I KNOW I KNOW, who would have thought a website called college confidential I would come for college advice... crazy I know

I am actually looking for some help. I have applied to too many reaches, and am worried I won't be accepted into any. I am looking for a couple of safeties I would feel happy at. I have been accepted to University of Illinois champaign urbana, and U of Wisconsin Madison, but would not enjoy going to either.

I'm look for maybe one liberal arts college that would be a safety... and another medium sized full university maybe. I am making a second batch of apps, so far I am thinking maybe Notre Dame (still not a safety), Claremont Mckenna, maybe Davidson, William and Mary, Northeastern... I have no clue.

Can anyone give me some advice, I'm looking for about 2 safeties there... I really need some help!

It might be better to post this on a more general board, rather than the Stanford board. And to list some stats and your intended area of study.

I like how you're making a batch of safties. I just kept thinking about cookies.

I think that Notre Dame, Davidson, William and Mary, and Northeastern are closer to the safety/match side for you. Madison is nothing to sneeze at though, esp. for the sciences. Aren't they all about stem cells?

Don't let the other kids on the threads get you down, you're a strong student (I hope). If you take the time for the apps, I promise you'll get into at least one school on that list, if not all.

go Claremont!
I'm going to be applying there... in a year... and Pomona's good also... but I'm not sure they're safeties... perhaps for you they may be...
UI Champaign-Urbana is where my rents went to grad school - good school if you're into sciences and such and if you like being in the middle of no where (I lived there for 3 yrs, the highlight was the nearest mall which was maybe 15 min. away and consisted of 10 stores.. perhaps it's different now)
In what region would you like to apply to?

Um, I'd prefer to be warm... but thats not too crucial.

U of I is a good school, its just I am from Illinois and half my schools goes there...

But no particular region, just somewhere I am likely to get into, and will not feel let down... unfortunalty I probably don't have much time to put together those apps... considering I haven't finished my first set yet.

personally... I'm a fan of CA schools...
I've pretty much decided that I'm only going to apply to schools in CA, NY, and MA... debating Washington U in st. Louie cause it has the majors I want...
but so far the schools that I'd consider my safeties and good matches are
BU (mom works there, so if I get in, tuition would be like 3 grand a year)
Umass (only cause if I don't get in anywhere else, I can feel like a loser but at least know I go for free)
NYU
suprisingly Princeton Review told me Cornell would be a good match instead of reach
Claremont
USC
and my others are
Stanford
Columbia
UCLA
and something else I can't remember at the moment...
but I still have a year to tweak that list...
I'm guessing I need more safeties

actually.. having lived in both the chicago and boston area... I can tell you that chicago is colder... see we only have snow here... but they don't call chicago the windy city for no reason... and the combo of the two... that's just like an icy hell

Cotriginia... beat ya to it... I have applied there as well... but my teacher sent in the rec late, so I havent heard back... could be feasible. But I would probably end up at U of I or Madison if came down to those three, purely for financial and proximity reasons (the girlfriend goes to school in chicago ;) )
