I am just wondering where one normally finds an internship for acturial science. It is usually not posted in the career center. Additionally, I know for investment banking, the big names are firms like Goldman and Morgan Stanley. Are there any big name firms for acturial science. Thanks

Towers Perrin, maybe

Any well-known insurance company.

Hey sy07, I'm certainly no expert about actuarial science or the career, but I know that most actuarial/insurance firms take interns who have one or two exams passed. It is very hard as a high school student to get an internship (been trying for a while).

Remember, actuaries split off into two main employers: insurance companies and actuarial consulting firms. Insurance-wise, of course, are State Farm, All State, Progressive, etc. Consulting Firms are, like Gil mentioned, Towers Perrin (my dream employer), Watson Wyatt, Milliman, Hannover Reinsurance, and a few more (mind's going blank).

(NOTE: The one thing I love about this career, that many do not know, is that there is entirely no need for a prestigious university. Actually, grads from actuarial powerhouses like Illinois State, UIUC, and Purdue tend to be WAY more successful (and plentiful) in the career than their prestigious counterparts. But the lucky ones from NYU Stern and Penn Wharton get the best of both worlds.)
