First time posting, so I apologize if this isn’t the right place for this. I’m currently a high school senior and have completed all of my required science credits to graduate, so this year I decided to take Zoology, a science elective offered at my school. I enjoy the class, but honestly I’ve found it to be pretty underwhelming and frankly, way too easy. This is a good thing given my relatively rigorous schedule this semester. But once things ease up next semester, I was thinking of switching over to AP Biology. I often hear of people dropping difficult classes for easier ones, but not necessarily easy classes for more challenging ones. So I was just wondering if ya’ll could provide some insight on whether or not it would be a good idea to join an AP class mid-year given that I haven’t taken the first semester. Would it be a manageable transition?
The real question is: does your school system allow this? Check, and if they do, study, study, STUDY! Read Campbell’s and Barron’s and your freshman/sophomore bio textbook and ask your friends in that class if they’ll help you get caught up. If you feel 111% confident in your biology knowledge, then study some more, you should be at least 112%. It’ll be tough, but I hope it works out.
BTW, this is the right place for this. You’re good
I think it would be manageable if you really loved science and are good at it. A lot of people tend to self study AP Bio so that’s a good thing since I am assuming you would need to study and learn the material from the previous semester. It shouldn’t be too difficult!
Second semester? Definitely, but you’ll be a bit behind, I believe. Can’t speak much on Biology since I’m not taking it (anymore), but if it’s like Physics C, 2nd semester will use concepts from first semester. But be sure that it’s for you. If you have friends in the class, ask to see their homework assignments or anything that they learned. There will be a lot of reading.
