Hello, I am a sophomore this year and I am hoping to take AP biology but my school isn’t offering this year due to the low participation rate. I really want to take the class but I’m scared I won’t be able to. I need some advice on what to do.
Here is what I have so far. OPTION 1: I self-study for the exam OPTION 2: I take the course online. This is the most expensive option for me and I’m not sure if I can afford it OPTION 3: I take a community college course. All the classes are full though which I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get in.
My best bet is to self-study but I hear a lot of negative things online about it and colleges don’t like it. Any advice would help. Thank you.
A computer science course is a good elective, but you also need to ensure you have all your core sciences - bio, chem, and physics - covered. Not that they all need to be completed first, but there needs to be a plan for them.
Unless you are a real science whiz, I’d recommend taking one science class/year. For many people having multiple labs/year is a lot.
If you took bio freshman year you seem to be on track to take an AP science senior year which should be perfectly fine to even top tier schools.
Really a pity that there is not enough interest in AP Bio for your school to offer it. It’s a fantastic class, useful for everyone to help them to be able to understand healthcare.
Anyway, if they won’t offer it, maybe you can do it together with a teacher as a semi-independent study class. All the highschoolers I know swear by Bozeman science online. AP Biology — bozemanscience
Hi! I totally feel you, my school does not offer AP Psychology too because of low popularity to take the course. Totally weigh out the pro and cons of each option. Personally, I would probably go with either Option 1 or Option 2.
For Option 1: Check out bozeman science on YouTube, buy a AP Prep book (Barrons or Princeton Review) ← if the books are too expensive you can find online websites to download like lib.gen
Also, check out Fiveable, you can use their free stuff like study guides and guides for studying, or buy Cram tickets and live slideshow classes, I heard they are great! Definitely check out what people on Reddit and Quora recommend, that’s how I got some info for self study APs. AND KEY TIP: START EARLY!!
For Option 2: You can enroll in BYU AP Courses, I only had friends who enrolled I personally did not so I don’t know how it goes. But based on what I heard, they test you time to time.
Definitely utilize online cram sessions on YouTube (free!) and Quizlet, there’s plenty for an AP like AP Bio. I hope this helps and you got it!!
