Add. Meeting

Last week, I had a second interview over Skype. The day earlier, I received an email from the man reading my application, and he said that he hoped to meet me and learn more about me. The interview went well overall (I wouldn’t say outstanding, but well and I provided him some additional info that I think definitely will strengthen my application). I think I am a very strong candidate for Harvard, with top grades and scores (like most), unique and outstanding extracurriculars, as well as the ability to play a sport at Harvard as a walk-on (I won’t say which one, but I am a strong prospect although I was not recruited because I chose not to be).

Does anyone have insight behind the reasons for a second interview? My alumni interview in January went very well. In my meeting with my admissions officer, he said that he liked my essays and seemed genuinely impressed when I talked about some of my extracurriculars. I think the committee is meeting soon. Perhaps I am a borderline candidate and they wanted to learn more about me?

Thanks!

I think it’s highly likely that you are a borderline candidate and they are looking for additional information and perspective. That’s great news- it means you are still in the running! A classmate of my daughter was offered a second interview about this same time last year.

Thanks! Do you know if she was accepted?

She was waitlisted, and opted not to accept a spot on the waitlist.

This just happened to me @abcdzyxwvuts how’d it go?

@jordanheston It went pretty well, I think! Not amazing, but mostly just clarifying questions. What about you?? It’s been on my mind non-stop - perhaps you can relate?

@abcdzyxwvuts Sorry for the late reply! Seemed well and he seemed interested, asked clarifying questions and tried to sell me on Harvard as I was accepted to Princeton in SCEA. Idk, I hone on some of the comments, like at the end he said “well, you have my contact information, feel free to ask questions anytime, but I’m sure I’ll be talking to you in the next few weeks anyway…” still on my mind!!!
