Additional Interview?

Hey all,

This is my first post on CC, and I only joined to get this urgent question answered. I applied to Harvard this year, RD, and completed all of the requirements. This includes being interviewed by an alum. I thought that it went really well. Then, I got an email recently from the "admissions director in charge of my school," asking me to come down for an "additional interview." This was weird, firstly because I am the only applicant (that I know of) from my school. Second, I haven't heard of anyone else having to do this.

I went down to Cambridge this Friday, and the interview went great. All the interviewer said was that "I have a great file, and she just had to clear up some questions". Has anyone else gotten this request? Is this a good sign? Let me know what you feel; I'd really appreciate it.

my son got one of those last year; he was wait listed and then admitted. He thought both interviews went great. He is from a competitive area.

This is a good sign.

If you search a bit more, you’ll find threads from last year on this topic too. Though there’s no reason for you to do that- you’re done with your part, and the ball is in their court.

It sounds like they are still deliberating your application, so its a good sign that you aren’t automatically out of the running. But there are probably some things they want to clear up or they just want more reasons to accept or deny you

Not to hijack the thread too much, but is not receiving a request for a second interview a bad sign?

^Good question. I’d be interested to read some answers to this one.

Heinochus:

Disclaimer: This is only a guess, but…

It is probably neither a good or bad sign. Just a sign. The “Definately In” pile is probably already done. The “Definately Out” pile is probably already done. There is probably a small percentage of files from which they will choose to admit or waitlist.

The only sign you need to worry about now is the one in your mailbox on April 1.

^I’d have to agree. The applications that are still under review at this point are extremely borderline. Nevertheless, that certainly means you haven’t been flat out denied, like many people. Keep on keeping on.

Thanks everybody.

I found out another interesting piece of information today. My guidance counselor failed to tell me that Harvard had contacted my school to see “how I was doing.” He made it sound like it had a health-orientation, but they were also checking grades, I think.

I don’t know, I just need to stop thinking about it for awhile. I’ll know as soon as April comes around…

OK. Thanks for the answers. Good luck, all!
