Alright, well, I think that some people have the wrong idea about why a lot of people take drugs for ADD/ADHD.

Personally, I take prescribed Vyvanse which was referred to my doctor by a well-known and respected psychologist. Vyvanse is basically a long-acting (12 hours) version of Adderall without the bad side effects. I don’t crash and generally the worse thing I feel is occasional jitters. Whether or not I truly have ADD, I don’t know. All that I know is that before I was taking it, I was getting through school, but it was extremely difficult. Taking it wasn’t a way for me to get a step-up on others, I purely take it for myself and competition wasn’t on my mind at all upon being evaluated. Now that I take it, I’m just more proactive. I’m able to motivate myself to get my work done early, not necessarily better. But helping me concentrate wasn’t the only thing this drug did for me. I’m generally a very defensive and argumentative person. On Vyvanse, I’m still like that for the most part, but instead of racing thoughts and the inability to evaluate a situation, I’m able to think my actions through a lot better which has done wonders for my relationships.

Honestly, I don’t really care whether or not other people take it illegally, it’s not my business and I’m not academically competitive so I don’t care how they do compared to me. I just thought that there needed to be an example of someone on here who takes the medicine for their own self-betterment, not to get above others. I don’t think I’m cheating by taking Vyvanse like many people think because I use it mostly for my life in general, not academics. It just helps me bury my defensiveness and show my easy-goingness, which I like. I just like how I feel when I’m on it; I’m not changing myself, I’m just able to bring out the better parts of my personality.
