If an additional essay opened up a new perspective to an applicant, would it be beneficial to send in an additional essay? or too late and not worth it?

My instinct is to say no - if they wanted an additional essay, they’d ask for one (or at least give the option). The only exception that I can imagine would be if something incredibly dramatic has happened since you applied, which you feel will radically change how they view you as an applicant (eg. you’ve discovered that you’re a violin prodigy, and been admitted to the New York Philharmonic), in which case it might be worth dropping them a note.

That said, I’m just another applicant, so I’m probably biased ;)

Anyway, good luck with your application!

i sent an additional essay to two of my colleges…i kept fretting about it, so i just sent it one day. now i’m not worrying about sending the wrong essay anymore

IMO not worth it. If you’re in, you’re in, if you’re not, you’re not.

I sent off a small essay off to my top choices basically just reaffirming my interest and giving the schools an update as to what I’ve been doing in late January.

^I did that too two weeks ago, including a letter to Dartmouth. I don’t know whether it would be helpful in your case though… for me, the update letter was completely useless because Dartmouth already came to a decision on my application long before they received my update.
