For those of you who applied EA, and those who are working on RD apps like myself, did you use the additional essay, and if so, how long was your essay/writing?

Also, is it okay to expand on a small point already made via my activities list? For instance, I've already written a great essay for another college about how I got into theater and vocal music, how that ties to my passion for politics (which I plan on majoring in). While I previously mentioned in the common app activities page that I sing and am in drama, this essay really showcases why any of that matters in my life when I intend to major in something far different. Granted, the essay is 500 words. So I'm wondering if Harvard really just wants a short snippet on something not said before, or if this is okay since its an in depth perspective on a great part of my life?

That sounds fine, esp since it brings light to your underlying involvement, something the admissions committee wouldn’t know otherwise. As long as its interesting and engaging, 500 words is fine. As a rule of thumb, anything over 500/600 is probably too much.

I wrote about something personal to me and indicative of who I am as a person: my strife when attempting to understand my religion and the strict stipulations that coincide. I have not been accepted/nor rejected yet…I applied EA, this year. Just make sure its not anything overdone, too florid and just unnecessary.

I elaborated on a meaningul leadership/accomplishment experience in an extracurricular, but it was more of an unusual, not-your-run-of-the-mill type of experience.

I wrote about an interesting activity I do at school. It ended up being about 430 words long. It had nothing to do with Harvard, and I’ll probably end up using it somewhere else too.
