"Additional" Expenses

Drexel listed additional expenses as:

Books + Supplies: 1,875
Transportation: 850.00**
Misc/Personal: 3,050

Can a current student tell me how close is this in reality?

** is the college transportation system free to students? Is it only for the area immediately surrounding the campus?

I won't have a car at school and home (if I want to go home) is a few hour drive/bus ride.

How Much Is Drexel's Total Expence Exactly???
I've seen so many different numbers.

no transportation won't cost that much at all. you are a good person to estimate your misc/personal items. Do you go shopping every weekend and buy clothes, shoes, etc? I know i didn't spend that much cash freshman year at all. books and supplies... if you buy all your textbooks used or on the internet, it can't possibly cost 1800 a year. the most i ever spent in a term for books is a few hundred dollars. i've shared textbooks, used chegg to rent textbooks, bought them on the internet, bought used ones, bought online textbooks, etc... its not that bad.
what do you mean by college transportation system? where would you need to go? i cant think of any colleges that have more transportation opportunities than drexel. for god sake, 30th street station is literally one black from drexels campus, one of the biggest train stations in the united states. Amtrak, SEPTA regional rail which goes all throughout eastern PA, NJ Transit, and other train systems. Then you have drexels free shuttle that brings students around campus and to the center city campus (although to be honest, i've never taken the drexel shuttle before and i just walk everywhere). bikes are extremely popular in philly, and there is nowhere you can't get without a bike. Drexel has two subway stations on its campus which connect to just about everywhere in philly, very easily, wheter you want to go to center city, penns landing, a phillies game, or temple university. Then drexel also has a trolley station on campus which also goes all throuhgout west philadelphia and down into center city- i take the trolley sometimes to go to co-op fast. then there are the SEPTA buses which are just about everywhere and go to just about everything, and the UCity "LUCY" loop buses which go all throughout university city. Then there is philly car share and zipcar which is a very cheap way to afford a car on campus if you really do need a car, and does not cost anything a month. There are cars parked around every corner... many many different drexel students have phillycarshare memberships. Then, if all else fails, you can just ask your buddy who has a car on campus for a ride, or take a taxi, which are just about everywhere to find.

I guess they just give the worst possible case scenario.

I hardly ever shop. I hate to. It's not like I outgrow my clothes, so I'm pretty well set.

For spedning money and entertainment, I plan to be pretty conservative (i Hope).

I was thinking about transportation during co-ops. WIth the public tran system being so good, I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem.

Thanks very much for explaining all this. Too bad you weren;'t the student ambassador during my tour last fall, lol!

some student ambassadors are very good, some really suck and can barely speak english... everyone should have a good experience on the tour, so if your not, don't think thats the norm.
