For this section, would it be okay to briefly mention (like one paragraph, 100-200 wods) about my family's struggle with money? It really bothered me during high school, which then made me give up and not try hard...but now that I'm in college, I feel that this was another huge role for my motivation to continue my education. Oh, i'm a prospective transfer student by the way.

Basically my family got hit pretty hard by the recession and our income has been $0 for the past five years. My grandparents have been helping us out by donating about $1,200 to us every month for the past few years. My older sister is going to college and so am I. My mom left to travel across the country to take care of her parents (who would in return pay her for it). My dad is in California, working in my aunt and uncle's boutique shop to earn cash, and my sister is still in the process of applying to grad school. If it weren't for my grandparents, I wouldn't have gone to school. They made it possible. We also just sold our house, so we don't really have a home anymore. I stay with my mom and grandparents for breaks or go to my sister's apartment. My dad is going back to S. Korea, in hopes of getting a job. Basically, it's been hard, but we've been managing somehow.

I really want to transfer from Penn State to USC. I'm not too worried about my grades because I will have above a 3.7 gpa. I have good and relevant extracurricular goals for the program I want to transfer into. I just don't want to sound like i'm whining about my financial problem! Do you think it would be a good idea to just mention this? How would I even handle this the right way? Do I make it sound hopeful or what?
